Tortoise Time...

Tortoise Time...
Before I start talking about the infamous tortoises, I will give you a little bit of background info...

Mum's physiotherapist here who does her manual lymphatic drainage massage, breeds tortoises.  He was planning to give Mum and Dad two tortoises as a present, and my kids were going to name them as a surprise from my parents when they got here (remember we had booked this trip back in January to have a holiday together).  Then the news occurred and the tortoises were subsequently cancelled...tortoises live well over 100 years.  Sooooo, Mum's physiotherapist loves kids, and decided that he would loan two tortoises to them for the week that we were visiting - the kids are having a lovely time searching for them each day.  I went for a cuddle this morning (I will cuddle any kind of animal - even the "non-cuddly" ones), and promptly got pooped and peed on!  Lovely!!!  I am now aware that tortoise pee and poo doesn't smell!  Thank heavens for small mercies!

Today was a beautiful day - we took a trip to the beach and sat watching the kids playing in the sand and sea, with a couple of cold beers!  Our kids were too young the last time we went on a beach holiday, so the sea and sand was new to them.  Well, suffice it to say, they got sand EVERYWHERE!!!!  My son rolled in the sand, and SAT in the sea (without his swimming stuff on), and my daughter managed to get sand plastered across her face!  Oh well, they had fun and we now know that they love swordfish!

Other than lunch, Mum and I spent some time baking together.  We made my son's power ranger birthday cake.  We will be spending numerous hours icing the darn thing tomorrow to meet his requirements!  Yellow power ranger here we come - I will post a photo!  It was lovely to spend some time in the kitchen with her, although it was not lost on either of us that this was the first birthday cake she had made for him, and also the last.  I'm sure it will be that much more special because of that.

Tomorrow we head to the resort for one night before my Mum and Dad join us.  Our time here in their house has gone by way too fast, and it will seem like a very long time until July rolls around and I return.  Time is ticking away and there is nothing I can do about it.
