A coffee & a companion

I seem to start a few posts with "it's been a while", or words to that effect!  Well, once again it's been a while, as I've been finishing up work for the academic year, doing the usual running around for various sporting events, and making my way back to Mum and Dad.

Alas, I am here in Spain once again!  I arrived Wednesday just before midnight at their house, having left our house in Canada Tuesday late afternoon (after spending a day running around after Kindergarteners, but that's a whole separate story!!).  Needless to say, I was exhausted!

I was planning a fast turn around due to Mum's ever dwindling energy levels, but it dawned on us whilst at Gatwick waiting for my flight, that our time would just go by too quickly.  Mum asked if I would stay until Wednesday to give us a full week instead of a few days...it was sort of a no brainer! Thus, I am now here until Wednesday - thank you bereavement flights...no change fees required!

On the whole it's been very upbeat and happy with only a few tears.  Once when a friend of Mum's asked me how I was holding up, and once when Mum showed me what I'm reading at the funeral.  I asked if it was okay to share it so here it is...

If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

Planning a funeral is not wonderful at the best of times, but at least Mum has a say in the proceedings...so much so in fact that the funeral director is coming on Tuesday to go through everything so it's all done and just a call needs to be made on THE day, and he will come over and take everything on from there.

Right I'm off to spend some very precious time with Mum now so I will post again when I get a chance!

P.S. I enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee by the pool this morning with my furry companion Will.
