Jesus Calling

For those of you who know me well, you know that I am Christian.  March 18th was the date when Mum had her PET scan and the news came in...that was the day I was a mess.  One of my close friends here text me late that night, at a time when I was still struggling to come to terms with all of this, with a message that still hits home.  It was an except from a devotional entitled Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.  The devotion for March 18th was as follows:

"TRUST ME ONE DAY AT A TIME.  This keeps you close to Me, responsive to My will.  Trust is not a natural response, especially for those who have been deeply wounded.  My Spirit within you is your resident Tutor, helping you in this supernatural endeavor.  Yield to His gentle touch; be sensitive to His prompting.

Exert your will to trust Me in all circumstances.  Don't let your need to understand distract you from My Presence.  I will equip you to get through this day victoriously as you live in deep dependence on Me.  Tomorrow is busy worrying about itself; don't get tangled up in its worry-webs.  Trust Me one day at a time."
PSALM 84:12; MATTHEW 6:34

I wasn't in a wonderful place to truly receive that message on that day, but I take comfort in it now I'm further down this road.  This news has definitely 'wounded' me, and I am very distracted by my need to understand all of this.  The only way I will get through this is one day at a time.  I have my Faith that will carry me through this, as Christ has gone before me.  For anyone thinking Christianity is a crutch...perhaps, but it's a crutch I'm happy to have by my side.  Everyone needs something/someone, and I need God.

Just before I left for England, the same friend showed up on my doorstep with a gift bag.  In that bag was a book by Max Lucado You'll Get Through This, and 2 devotionals from which the above passage came.  One for me, and one for my Mum should she choose to read it with me.  I am truly blessed by the people I have in my life right now - there is no doubt that I would be far better equipped to walk this path with my friends from England, but the few friendships that I have developed here are very strong, and for that I will be eternally grateful...you know who you are!
